Some couples may only need assistance in optimising the timing of intercourse to achieve a pregnancy.
This form of treatment can be done in conjunction with a tracking cycle where a baseline hormone profile and ovarian scan are done between days 2 and 6 of the menstrual cycle. Frequent blood tests are then commenced from a few days prior to expected ovulation (usually from day 10) so that advice can be given on the ideal time for intercourse to maximise the chance of pregnancy (where appropriate). Several blood tests are done in the second half of the cycle to check that progesterone levels are high enough to maintain an adequate uterine lining (endometrium) to support a pregnancy.
The results provide valuable information about your hormone levels, egg development and ovulation during a monthly menstrual cycle and this information will be used during any subsequent treatment cycles.
