Dr Helena Shehadeh
BHSci(Hons) PhDDr Shehadeh joined Repromed in 2012 and has since worked across multiple departments including Pathology (both Andrology and Endocrine laboratories), Embryology, Patient Services and Quality Assurance. She is currently the Pathology Laboratory Supervisor and an embryologist with Repromed. Dr Shehadeh is also an Affiliate Lecturer with the University of Adelaide, Technical Assessor with the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) and state representative for Scientists in Reproductive Technologies (SIRT).
In 2018, Dr Shehadeh completed her PhD in Reproductive Medicine through the University of Adelaide and the Robinson Research Institute. Her PhD focused on male subfertility; primarily the effectiveness of oral micronutrient supplementation intake on sperm oxidative stress and sperm DNA damage in men of varying BMIs and their chances of achieving a healthy embryo and ultimately a successful pregnancy.
Dr Shehadeh’s passion for sharing her research outcomes was fortunately discovered early on in her research career at her first presentation at the Fertility Society of Australia (FSA) conference in 2013. At this conference, she was awarded Best Scientific Paper/Presentation and an invited speaker for a plenary lecture at the 2014 European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) International Conference in Munich, Germany. Dr Shehadeh has also been awarded Best Oral Presentation in the Field of Reproduction, Pregnancy or Child Health at the 2015 Australian Society of Medical Research (ASMR) SA Annual Scientific Meeting, Best Student Oral Prize at the 2015 Robinson Research Institute Symposium and the Early Career Research Award at the 2016 Scientists in Reproductive Technology (SIRT) Annual Meeting. She has also published multiple papers in peer reviewed journals.
Having both a clinical and research background, Dr Shehadeh ensures continuous improvements in both the Andrology and Endocrine laboratories in providing exceptional patient care and clinician engagement. She also ensures the Pathology laboratory complies with national accreditation (NATA) whilst managing high performing, collaborative and cohesive laboratory team performance. Dr Shehadeh believes that these factors are essential in achieving patient outcomes and fertility services to ultimately assist in bringing life to the world.
